Hüseyin Kalkan

Hüseyin Kalkan is mayor of Batman in Southeast Anatolia, Turkey, and a member of the Democratic Society Party. He gained international notoriety after it was revealed that he had filed a lawsuit against D.C. Comics for using his city's name in their Batman Comic book franchise. In 2007, D.C. Comics confirmed that they had settled with the city for an undisclosed amount.^[1] In February 2008 the mayor was sentenced to 10 months in jail for promoting terrorism. Prosecutors speculated that Kalkan may have used money from his settlement with D.C Comics to fund terrorism.^[2]
