Some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Guy Greville, 9th Earl of Warwick may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers, and encourages them to become Wikipedians. On Wikipedia, each user is entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. [edit] Edit of Vanadium(V) oxide
Dear Gwarwick, I saw your edit of Vanadium(V) oxide. I know that you are relatively new to the Wikipedia (as editor), so I will point you to pages like Wikipedia:POV, Wikipedia:Spam. Shortly, promoting your own site (or, a site) is considered a wrong reason to put in a link. The link might have been allowed (well, see second part of this post, vide infra), if you would have added essential information to the page, and would have put in your link as a reference for the data.
But, the external links to 'chemical suppliers/manufacturers' have been the subject of a dispute on several Wikipedia, see e.g. Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment#Commercial Suppliers. Some of us have taken a stand there, stating that these links do serve a purpose, but we also do understand that these links could be seen as being commercial. We should avoid the latter ... Currently, there is some work underway to get a new page underway, Wikipedia:Chemical sources, which, hopefully, will be linked like the Special:Booksources page, but then on e.g. CAS, InChI, etc. I am working on removing links from compound pages that do not point directly to the chemical data page on the supplier site, and collecting these links in Wikipedia:Chemical sources. Ideally, in the end, all links to (more or less) commercial sites should be removed, but for that we will have to have dedicated 'special-page' working.
I hope you have understanding for this point-of-view, and I hope you can help us improving the Wikipedia. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:36, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
