User:GVP Webmaster
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'm the webmaster for the Smithsonian Institution's Global Volcanism Program. My time here is very limited, but I think it's useful to keep track of what's going on. Most of my edits are on the technical end, usually dealing with how GVP is being referenced (I like consistency), but I'll kick in some article edits, clean up vandalism, or provide some info/feedback on Talk pages once in awhile.
I have been encouraged by the significant use and referencing of GVP by knowledgeable editors. Some related pages are listed below.
[edit] Suggested GVP Website Citation Format
For a basic link (reference or external link) back to the main page for a specific volcano, the Template:VNUM should suffice. Others may want to use a more rigorous citation form, such as the Cite_web template.
The general reference using the VNUM template is Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program: Hekla.
To create
- Hekla. Global Volcanism Program. Smithsonian Institution. Retrieved on 2007-02-27.
use the following code:
{{cite web
| title = Hekla
| work = Global Volcanism Program
| publisher = [[Smithsonian Institution]]
| url = http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/volcano.cfm?vnum=1702-07=
| accessdate = 2007-02-27
}}
This format can be easily modified to separately reference volcano sub-pages or other parts of the website, such as:
- Hekla - Eruptive History. Global Volcanism Program. Smithsonian Institution. Retrieved on 2007-02-27.
- Hekla - Synonyms and Subfeatures. Global Volcanism Program. Smithsonian Institution. Retrieved on 2007-02-27.
- Volcanoes of Iceland and the Arctic Ocean - Iceland (southern). Global Volcanism Program. Smithsonian Institution. Retrieved on 2007-02-27.
- Sakura-jima - Monthly Reports (BGVN 32:04). Global Volcanism Program. Smithsonian Institution (May 2007). Retrieved on 2007-08-04.
