Guy de la bretaigne

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guy de la Bretaigne (French, 1823-1874) was a critic, dandy, and man of letters. A recluse but with a wide acquaintanceship in the 19th century Paris world of arts and letters. His pose was one of studied indifference. A notable and characteristic Bretaigne quotation is from an 1854 letter to Charles Baudelaire: "The critic can on occasion encounter something of interest--yet even that does not make it interesting."
