[edit] Jacob Stephens
Is a real member. I will find references when i get my inet back. I am at school.
- I have no idea who you're talking about. No one by that name is listed on any of the band's releases, and a Google search of Guttermouth + Jacob Stephens returns no decent results. If you plan to add his name to the article, please post your reference here first so we can discuss it. --IllaZilla 00:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Early lineup
There have been a number of disruptive edits to the article lately by at least 1 person claiming to have "been there" or to have been editing on behalf of Mark Adkins. I'm going to go ahead and address a few things here:
- You shouldn't remove information from the article that is referenced without discussing it here first. Pretty much everything in the article concerning the early history of the band is referenced from James Nunn's liner notes in Live From the Pharmacy. Since he was in the band, I'd call it a pretty reliable source.
- I'll admit that the references used are not clear about who exactly was in the earliest couple of Guttermouth lineups. If you have more information about that, then please bring it up here. As much as we would like those parts to be more accurate, we can only use information that comes from reliable (and citable) sources.
- As to the specific claim that Adkins "never played bass in Republic," here's verbatim from Nunn's liner notes: "Mark's first band was called Republic. Mark actually played, or tried to play bass guitar."
Feel free to raise your concerns here so that they can be discussed with other editors. --IllaZilla 03:32, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- That is the problem. The material is from Jamies liner notes. Jamie was not hanging around yet when Republic was playing in the earlyest days. I was witness to many Republic shows (good stuff). It is a fact that Mark has never played bass while in Republic. The bass player was Phil Van Valkenburg. If you have doubts about this, just ask Mark at the next show. I don't know why Jamie would say that Mark played bass. In case you are interested, the original line up for Republic was, Scott Sheldon (guitar), Shannon Peck (Guitar), Phil Van Valkenburg (bass), Mike Brindese (drums) and Mark Adkins (vocals). As far as the original Guttermouth line up, it was, Eric Davis (guitar), Mark Adkins (vocals), Tim Baulch (drums), Paul "Fang" I forgot his last name, and Barry Burnham (guitar). These references are clear, if you want to test this, just ask Mark at the next Guttermouth show. As far as the violence and drug use mentioned, it is slanderous hearsay and vague. Mark has asked me to remove it because it has hindered the band recently. If you have any doubts, just ask him at the next show. I apologize for coming off as a dick by mentioning the lame cliche "I was there". The thing is, I was there. I just wanted to report the true history of this period so people like yourself, who seem to be true fans of the band, can know the entire history. Salute. --65.165.164.11 (talk) 04:42, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

- OK, here's what I did: I took out the mention of Mark having played bass in Republic. Since this article is about Guttermouth, not Republic, it really doesn't need those kind of details anyway. It's only really important in establishing that he was in a band with Scott prior to Guttermouth. I also changed the original Guttermouth lineup and added Paul and Barry into it. Finally, I took out/reworded some of the bits about the drugs and such, since really all that those paragraphs are trying to establish is that Guttermouth had a reputation for chaos and outrageous behavior. No need to get specific about what kind of behavior, and the reference still supports the way the paragraphs are worded. Thanks for bringing up your concerns here, I appreciate that you're trying to help the article be more accurate. So am I, as a fan of the band and also someone who's trying to write good articles. I'm taking you at your word about the original lineup, since I don't have any third-party sources to go to for that information. But I doubt anyone is going to challenge it. The only problem now seems to be that the infobox in the article is broken, but I couldn't fix it. Hopefully it's just a bug and will work itself out. Thanks for the help. --IllaZilla 06:07, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
