Gandhi Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) is one of the most noted engineering colleges in the state of Orissa. It was established in 1997. It admits students based on the Orissa JEE. It has 8 departments of Engineering sciences with more than 2,500 students. Both Bachelors and Masters level degrees are undertaken. It also has an MCA, MBA and a Bio Tech division, all on the same campus. The total student population is close to 3,500. All buildings on the campus are aesthetically well appointed and laid out. The quality of the education in the college is not up to international standards but is better enough compared to most other private engineering institutes in India. The institute runs more than 20 massive hostels for men and women, both on and off campus, with a total capacity of about 2000, and is the only institute in the state to provide accommodation on such a large scale. It houses a well-maintained national standard 6-lane swimming pool on campus .

The institute has been consistently producing toppers in engineering sciences in the B.Tech. examinations of the B.P.U.T. which has about 30 other institutes affiliated to it. The Top-10 list of B.P.U.T B.tech exams has always seen the maximum number of students from GIET. The institute is going from strength to strength every passing year. Now in its 11th year, it is one of the most reputed colleges in the state and has a real mix of students from every corner of the country.
