Gunton Railway Station is a station on the Bittern Line which connects the city of Norwich to the North Norfolk coastal towns of Cromer and Sheringham. Although there is no village of this name, the station is actually situated in the parish of Thorpe Market, Gunton Station was built primarily for the convenience of Lord Suffield (a major investor in the original East Norfolk Railway Company[1]), who built the railway from Norwich to Cromer) and was probably never heaving with local commuters. Gunton’s rather splendid station buildings are now beautifully preserved but are privately owned.

[edit] The Station Today

Nowadays the station serves the villages of Lower Street, Thorpe Market and Southrepps The station is served by local services operated by National Express East Anglia. Gunton Station is un-staffed, and consists of a single platform with a simple 'bus type' shelter for passenger use. Originally the location of a passing loop, the northbound platform and station buildings are no longer in the ownership of the railway. There is an unrestricted car park at the station that holds approximately 10 vehicles.
