The Gulf of İzmir (Turkish: İzmir Körfezi), formerly known as the Gulf of Smyrna, is an inlet of the Aegean Sea. It is 40 miles in length by 20 miles in breadth, with an excellent anchorage. The city of İzmir, an important Turkish seaport, surrounds the end of this gulf.
