In the decade of the 90s appeared the first concertists and Stick solo recordings, and Guillermo Cides was one of the most active performers with his albums «El mundo interior de los planetas», «Primitivo» and the brilliant «The Bach Tribute», completely played with the Stick. Cides also edited the CCA Project with Linda Cushma and Tim Alexander (Primus drummer) with artist guest: Tony Levin, Trey Gunn, Steve Perrish among others. He also edited the first Stickistas Compilation with 22 Stick artists from different countries.
As one of the few exponents of this instrument in the world, he has played as an artist guest in concerts of Roger Hodgson (Supertramp); Emerson, Lake & Palmer; Jethro Tull; Fish (Marillion), John Wetton (Asia, UK); Rick Wakeman (Yes); Trey Gunn (King Crimson), California Guitar Trio and has also toured world wide offering his own shows.
The Stick is a mix of an electric guitar and a bass, that is positioned diagonally on the chest of the performer and played by pressing the strings with the fingers of both hands at the same time, with a pianistic concept, transforming the musician into a sonorous tactile percussionist. Four instruments in one, invented by the Californian luthier Emmett Chapman in the 70s, the stick was popularized in the beginning by Tony Levin in his live concerts with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel, and used afterwards in recordings for musicians such as John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Bruce Cockburn, David Sylvian, Thoya Wilcox, Yes...
His music style is very difficult to classify, but Cides has been included as a newness in prestigious festivals like «Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba», «Festival de Música Étnica de Menorca», «U-Zona Reggae», «Festival de Jazz de Terrassa», «Festival Kesse de Músiques del Món» or the «Insolit Music Forum»... demonstrating the success and acceptance of promoters and audience to a proposal that is not elitist, but popular and of high quality.
Argentinian and Spanish press have began talking about his work, and his interviews have appeared in national mass-media like «Clarín», «El País», «Diario El Mundo», «El Periódico», «El País de Galicia», «La Vanguardia», all the specialised magazines: «Guitar Player», «Guitarra Total», «Guitarist», etc., and also playing live in the Spanish National Television -«Los conciertos de Radio 3» - TVE2, «Àgora» - C33/TVC-, including National Radios. He actually spends most of the time touring in different cities of Spain and other countries in Europe and America. He has already been in Spain, Holland, England, France, Italy, Holland, U.S.A., Perú, Costa Rica, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina.
He is an official representative of Stick © in España and Argentina and founder of Stickcenter.com - the first web site in Spanish about Stick artists.
Definitely, something new in the world of music!
