Commemorative stone for Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir 1994-07-09-00-150
A commemorative stone for w:en:Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir (Guðrún the daugther of Ósvífur) near Helgafell (Holy mountain) on the w:en:Þórsnes (Thors peninsula), Western w:en:Iceland. Her life is a subject of the w:en:Laxdæla saga (The saga of the people from the salmon valley). Helgafell was a refuge since ancient times for people, outlaws and animals. People believe that you are granted three free wishes if you start climbing the mountain from Guðrúns grave without looking back and without speaking. At the top of Helgafell you can see the ruins of the ancient monastery and have a wonderful view over the magnificant w:en:Breiðarfjörður (the bright fjord).
I made the picture myself. There are two pictures one black and white and one in colour.
