| Purpose of use |
My rationale for fair use is to illustrate the article on the ballet Marius Petipa which was created soley for educational purposes. No free equivalent of the image exists or could be created that could adequately give the same information: the article discusses Petipa's original production of The Sleeping Beauty at length and the lavish productions put on by the Imperial Russian Ballet during his career with that company. This image certainly illustrates both passages of the article. Since no free images of the original 1890 production or the 1999 reconstruction of The Sleeping Beauty exist, fair use is justified. The use of this image in the article does not encrouch in any way on the copyright holder. |
| Replaceable? |
