Gris Grimly is an artist and storyteller who is based in the Los Angeles area best known for his darkly whimsical children's books.

Born in the Midwest (Nebraska), Grimly was drawn to the exciting and scary world of monsters and goblins. After graduating from college, where he studied art, Mr. Grimly moved to Los Angeles where he started working for Universal Studios. During his spare time he produced a series of original miniature books, which are now extremely rare and valuable. After the release of these works Harper Collins and Hyperion Press, a division of the Walt Disney Company, hired him to paint the covers for best selling works and to illustrate original children’s books like Pinocchio, Monster Museum and Creature Carnival.

His first book Monster Museum, written by Marilyn Singer, was published in September of 2001 to critical acclaim.[citation needed] He then went on to illustrate the book, The Cockatrice Boys in 2002 and then August of 2002, illustrated a story in Beware!: R.L. Picks His Favorite Scary Stories. In October, the complete and uncensored story of Pinocchio written by Carlo Collodi came out and was illustrated by Gris. In August of 2003 Gris released his first written and illustrated book Wicked Nursery Rhymes which became his most popular book to date. His following books included the sequel to Monster Museum titled Creature Carnival in April 2004. Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Mystery and Madness came out in August of 2004. In April 2005 Gris released his personal fairy tale Little Jordan Ray's Muddy Spud. After, Gris releases Boris & Bella, written by Carolin Crimi.Grimericks written by Susan Pearson was released in July 2005 and this was followed by the sequel to his 2003 book Wicked Nursery Rhymes entitled Wicked Nursery Rhymes II in April 2006. In September of 2006 Santa Claws written by Laura Leck & co-written and illustrated by Gris Grimly was released. Gris released in 2007, an illustrated version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. Upcoming books illustrated by Gris Grimly include The Dangerous Alphabet written by Neil Gaiman in April/May 2008 and Sipping Spiders Through A Straw written by Kelly Depucchio scheduled for Summer 2008. Gris has also made an independent short film entitled "Cannibal Flesh Riot." A black and white Horror film about a Pair of Ghoules, in the vein of German Expressionist, and 1950's B-Movies. It is the first of at least three movies to come from Gris Grimly out of his production company "Mad Creator Productions."
