Grimball's Landing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grimball's Landing was a skirmish in the US Civil War that took place on July 16, 1863 on James Island, South Carolina.
Union forces, led by Brig. Gen. Alfred H. Terry were responsible for luring Confederate reinforcements away from Fort Wagner, where a major Union assault was planned. Confederates took the bait, attacked the Union camp, but soon withdrew because of poor reconnaissance and swampy terrain.
Their mission accomplished, the Union forces withdrew the following day.
