Naked Short Selling refers to a stock trading strategy whereby stocks are sold that may not in fact be available for the seller to deliver to the buyer upon settlement.[CITE] The practice is deemed high risk,[CITE] and damaging to companies and the market, since it allows traders the opportunity to manipulate the market in a potentially fraudulent manner,[CITE] and it is therefore illegal in [many | most | some] countries.
