The article's title is "Great Mosque of Samarra", but the text is about the city itself. The mosque is hardly mentioned. either the article needs to be merged with the article on Samarra, or someone needs to put something about the mosque! Grutness...wha? 12:52, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong minaret pictured?

Are you sure the minaret pictured is the famous spiral minaret in Samarra?? It looks too small, out of scale. Compare with other pictures. Yes the picture is incorrect it is the Abu Dulaf Mosque, It needs correcting, this is the Great Mosque of Samarra http://www.theamblerfamily.com/Spiral%20Minaret%20Samara%201974.jpg

The photo is indeed of the wrong minaret. The tower depicted is the spiral minaret at Abu Dulaf, 15 km north of Samarra. Both minarets are depicted here, side-by-side (look under 'Samarra'): http://users.ox.ac.uk/~wolf0126/photo-index.html -- Apddraig (talk) 02:18, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

There is an appropriate photo readily available in the Wikipedia Commons that should be substituted/referenced. I'd do it myself, but have little exposure to Wikipedia editing. Thanks for the edit, Kotra. I double-checked the LON/LAT on the Google Earth link, and found the current coordinates point to the center of Samarra. If the coordinates of the mosque were to be used, they would be 34°12'26"N/43°52'48"E. Should these be changed, or is it currently 'close enough' to satisfy most people? While I didn't know how to edit the image link, I'm pretty confident with the LAT/LON change (if agreeable.) -- Apddraig (talk) 23:34, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
(My apologies, I wrote Google 'Earth', but it was Google 'Maps' that most-easily demonstrates the error in lat/lon.)
