[edit] Cottage hospital

Can someone, please, tell me what "cottage hospital" means? I'm quite curious. I see several instances of it at List of hospitals in the United Kingdom. But, despite having lived in England some years and visited British hospitals, I don't know what a cottage hospital is. Thanks for any help. — President Lethe 17:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
