[edit] Detail of Album
Having eaten the food that restored his strength, he started to cultivate his mind. Then, during the last period on Wednesday, the full moon day of the sixth lunar month, in the year of the cock, 45 years before his passing, he was Enlightened, and thus was the second birth. It was called the birth of Dhammakaya. That morning on the day of his Enlightenment, Mrs. Suchada, who was the richest paterfamilies’ daughter in Uruwelsenanikhom, gave him Mathupayas rice, placed on a golden tray and covered with another golden tray. She brought it to the Bo tree for offering to the deities where previously she had made a wish that she would find a suitable husband of similar social background and that they would have a son. Her hopes had later been fulfilled. When she arrived at the Bo tree, on seeing him she thought that he was a deity. She was so glad and gave the food and the golden tray to him. He took them. He took them. After taking a bath in Naerunchara River, he ate everything. Having eaten, he floated the tray resolving that if he were to become Enlightened the tray would float upstream. In fact it did float upstream. So he became confident that he would be Enlightened. Then he went to Salawan at the riverside of Naerunchara. He rested under the shade of the Sala tree until the afternoon. He came back to the Bo tree. On the way he met Sotthiya Phram who was a grass carrier. When the carrier saw him, he had so much faith in him that he gave him eight bundles of grass. turned He brought them to make a seat under the bo tree on the Eastern side. He sat cross-legged in a meditative posture and his face to the East, with his back to the Bo tree. He vowed not to get up unless he attained Enlightenment, even if his flesh and blood were to dry up and only skin were to cover his bones. Meanwhile, the demons of passion and delusion arose in his mind and made him recall the past when he sat on the throne. But he stilled his heart with ten perfections, namely: charity, ethical conduct, renunciation, wisdom, diligence, patience, truth, resolve, loving kindness and equanimity, which he had continually practiced in the past right up until the present. This made his heart firm, unshaken by aches and pains, passions and delusion, which disturbed his heart. Before the sun set, he got rid of passions and dulusion in his heart. Afterwards he practiced meditation and successfully in the means of insight one- two – three – four. And during the time of Visakha he practiced the means of insight that are the higher wisdom in three ways.
1. In the first period, he succeeded in Bubpenivasanusati Yana. He was able to know the how he came to be, he knew the truth of the body, And with patience he destroyed the fetters that cause the passions of craving of hatred.
2. In the middle period, he succeeded in Jutupapata Yana (Tippajaksu Yana). He could see the arising and passing of living beings. He knew the reality of the khanda (‘heaps’ of conditions) that are always changing. There is good. Bad. Happiness, and sadness because of Karma. He was able to destroy the fetters of the khanda.
3. In the last period, he succeeded in Arsavakaya Yana. He realized the truth of the khanda with cause and effect that continues like a chain, which if called Patidja-Samupabata (the Wheel of Dependent Origination). In fact it is the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. He practiced until he knew everything, until he succeeded completely through his attention. In summary, through his Enlightenment, he became Enlightened in the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism, namely: suffering, the origin of suffering, its extinction and the path to extinction.
The truth of Phra Ariya (the Noble One), the truth of successfully becoming Phra Ariya – the truth that Phra Ariva knows everything – the truth that is real and unchanging. The ‘Buddha’ and ‘Sammasambuddha’ are two titles, two great names for him. No-one gave them to him. They are names that were born by virtue of his qualities and qualifications.
He had the name of ‘the buddha’ because he was immaculate, a person free of passions and delusions. He had the name of ‘Sammasambuddha’ because he was enlightened by himself, without the help of a teacher. One might say that Arlarnladabod and Uthokhadabod taught him, but actually they only taught him subjects about the material world, not the knowledge about Enlightenment.
