Greenstone is an amalgamated town in the Canadian province of Ontario. As of 2006, the population was 4,906 people. Prior to amalgamation, the 1996 population was 6,530. The area of the town was 2,780.56 square kilometres, which is larger than several countries, and is one of the largest incorporated towns in Canada.

The town was formed in a wave of community amalgamations under the Progressive Conservative government of Ontario in 2001, encompassing the communities of Nakina, Geraldton, Longlac, Beardmore, Caramat, Jellicoe, MacDiarmid and Orient Bay. The communities are all separated by many tens to hundreds of kilometres of untouched northern wilderness (Nakina, in fact, is entirely exclaved from the rest of the town), but the amalgamation links the municipal services and functions into a single entity.

One of these functions was the library in the communities. As a result of the amalgamation, the Greenstone Public LIbrary came into being. There are four branches to the library, one each in Beardmore, Geraldton (the Elsie Dugard Centennial Branch), Longlac and Nakina (the Helen Mackie Memorial Branch). The library is a dynamic public service that provides the citizens of and visitors to Greenstone with a variety of useful services. There is free high speed internet access at all 4 branches. They all provide various clerical services along with the more traditional library services. Books and magazines are available both in-house and through inter-library loan. The library runs several different programs throughout the year for a variety of different age groups.

Greenstone's mayor is Michael Power.

The Greenstone Community Portal was launched February 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. It is the official Web presence of the municipality as well as a connection point to all Internet resources in the Community. Its content is developed by the community for the community and its platform serves many other internet applications in the region.

The CBC television series Spirit Bay was shot here in the early 1980s.
