[edit] Xor swap algorithm

I reverted your removal of the {{wikisourcepar}} link on Xor swap algorithm. The Wikisource article is still there; it's just that {{wikisourcepar}} is broken at the moment, due to Wikisource's half-hearted move to language-specific subdomains. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon. I think it makes sense to keep the (broken) link for a little while until it's fixed, rather than delete it and hope someone remembers to put it back in a week or two. --Quuxplusone 17:17, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

The article in its current form is just a one-sentence definition. If it can be expanded into more than that, it makes sense to leave it on its own. Otherwise, I'd rather add it as a one-line external link (to Knuth's article) on the Linked list page. Please note that other than a comment in Sudoku, nothing links (sorry about the pun...) to this article. On Linked list, at least people would find it. Hi. Your negative signs, that you've changed "-"s into in some articles, show up as question marks in my browser. Most websites seem to just use dashes; are you sure that this minor typesetting improvement is worth a loss of accessibility? --Graue 22:32, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Never heard of it. It looks like there are plugins to give it support for Unicode, though that was a while ago. Maybe you need to install a font or something.
Note that your browser also mangles pages containing Unicode characters during saves (it stripped them from your edit to this page, for instance), which shouldn't happen anymore. It should be on the workaround blacklist. I'll write to the developers about that. — Omegatron 04:57, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm going through your edits and your browser is stripping any special characters that it comes across (which are necessary for international accessibility).[1][2][3] Can I ask that you use a different browser to edit Wikipedia until your browser is added to the blacklist? You can also have it identify itself as one of the old browsers that's already in the list, and you'll be presented with the Unicode characters in their HTML named entity form, if you know how to do that. — Omegatron 05:24, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Crap, sorry about that. I changed my UA string to "Lynx (compatible; w3m/0.5.1)" and now get the workaround -- an exclusive rather than inclusive list for getting the workaround might be a better idea, if you happen to be chatting with the developers.

About the typesetting vs accessibility, that's not really for me to decide. You might try asking in the Village Pump. I was told it is good to use, there is a box at the bottom of the edit window for entering it directly, and the Manual of Style recommends it. I doubt we're going to limit functionality for a minority of viewers. Typography is a form of accessibility, too.

You created the Combsort article; and also added the mention of Combsort11 to the article. I'm having a bit of a problem verifying this experimentally; what source did you get that information from? It is indeed from the BYTE article; that article was posted on the web, and the link referenced from the article, but the link has since gone dead (someone removed it in December 2006). I don't know where you'd find the BYTE article now. --Graue (talk) 20:01, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

I am very interested in the magical shrink factor 1.279604943109628 or 1/(1-\frac{1}{e^{\frac{\sqrt{5}+1}{2}}}) \approx 1.247330950103979 with the golden ratio in there... Where did it come from?
