If the Grand Duke Nicholas was not the last surviving influential Romanov, then who do you suggest was? I can think of no other Romanov, after the murder of Tsar Nicholas II, who was remotely as important as Grand Duke Nicholas. Witness the attempts made on his life by the CHEKA.
