"Gratifaction" is a song from the film (Tom Sawyer), written by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, and arranged by John Williams. In the film, the song is sung by Johnny Whitaker as "Tom" and the chorus of town boys. In the song Tom tricks the other boys into white washing his Aunt Polly's fence (so that he doesn't have to do it).
"Gratifaction" is an invented word. It is a combination of two words, gratification and satisfaction. The Sherman Brothers are well known for creating other invented words, including "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins.
This song earned the Sherman Brothers and John Williams an Oscar nomination for "Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Score for Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy.[1]
