Granite Chief is a mountain located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley Ski Resort. The mountain rises to an elevation of 9,006 ft (2,745 m), which is the highest point in Placer County.[2] The mountain receives heavy snowfall during the winter, thus this snowfall supports numerous ski resorts around Lake Tahoe, such as Alpine Meadows.[3] The peak also forms the western edge of the Squaw Valley ski area boundary.[4]
