[edit] String of Lies Anecdote
String of Lies was released in Superstar Car Wash, which was released before A Boy Named Goo. If Takac ever screamed "Where's our fucking money?", it would have been in a live concert ad-lib I also can't find any sources that back this anecdote up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.12.119.156 (talk) 21:01, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] First Release
I've added a contribution to the First Release discussion page, anyone interested in rewriting that article? English is not my native language, I have provided the necessary updates but someone else will have to update the article. - Splendor 15:22, 10 December 2007 (CEST)
[edit] My reverts
I have been asked to state why I keep reverting the user who keeps insisting that ""NBC holiday album" should be listed instead of simply "single". The reason for this is that there is no reason to believe that this song was written for this NBC album. Also because it was released as a single[1][2] and if anything it will be included on their next album "Let Love In" and should be listed under that instead. Hope this helps --T-rex 03:26, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. That's all I needed to know. --† Ðy§ep§ion † 03:44, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
The release date of "Let Love In" was adjusted to reflect new information from the band's official web site, www.googoodolls.com.
Just so you know, on the iTunes Originials, Johnny explicitly states that he was asked to write a song fo the NBC album and that is when he wrote "Better Days". So there is reason to believe it was written for the album, Johnny said so.
[edit] Naming
The official name of the band is The Goo Goo Dolls, not Goo Goo Dolls. Shouldn't this article be named accordingly? Cparker 03:35, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Probably --T-rex 04:50, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- You're right, I'm moving it.
- The offical name of the band is actually "Goo Goo Dolls." 'The' is just added to make it sound more gramatically correct. Their website is www.googoodolls.com, their artist name is listed on iTunes Music Store as Goo Goo Dolls, and not only that, but VH1 lists them as "Goo Goo Dolls." Also, if you look at their biography, everywhere it says "the Goo Goo Dolls," implying that 'the' is not part of their name. You should consider changing this. --Timjurka 23:49, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- its just Goo Goo Dolls Siddyjain
- Actually, I think the actual name of the band is now "The Goo Goo Dolls". They seemed to have switched over to this name during 1998 - Look at the album covers since then, they all have "The Goo Goo Dolls". Of course, everybody still calls them "Goo Goo Dolls" out of habit. -Yosht 05:35, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm curious, where did they get the name "Goo Goo Dolls" anyway? My dad asked me, and I had no clue. I think its origins would be a worthy addition to the article to boot.--Pepsidude (talk) 21:59, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Move
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was move.
The above is a debate?? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by T-rex (talk • contribs) .
- Not really, but the point is that it's over, and nobody objected. Nightstallion didn't move it until a week after I voted, and nobody else had, so it was safe to move. We had an anon that thought it was still open so I made it more official. —Akrabbimtalk 19:01, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Hold on, didn't we just agree their name is merely "Goo Goo Dolls", "the" only present for the sake of proper grammar? Because the article's name is back to "The Goo Goo Dolls". Also for further evidence that their name is indeed simply "Goo Goo Dolls" notice that none of their videos include "the" when they list the name of the artist. Every video refers to them as "Goo goo Dolls" not "The Goo Goo Dolls".
[edit] Sex Maggots
It is an urban myth that the Goo Goo Dolls ever had the name the "Sex Maggots". This has been confirmed by John Rzeznik himself on multiple occassions during interviews.
- Are you Sure?
- InsideCx: The band has been around for quite a while. You started out in Buffalo during the mid-Eighties. Yes, we started out as the Sex Maggots, then became the Goo Goo Dolls, well, and we’re still the Goo Goo Dolls! ([3])
- Okay. Well, the verifiability is more uncertain then. I'm not that familiar with them, I was trying to make some of the grammar more clear and wondered why that excerpt was taken out; if it's inaccurate, that's up to you all.
- Pretty sure!! Listen to this interview with John Rzeznik. When they bring up a trivia question about the "Sex Maggots", he says it's an urban myth (Around the 6.5 minute mark of the interview). The Goo Goo Dolls do have a song called "Sex Maggot".
- NO, this is all true, sorry --T-rex 15:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- It is true that they did get their name from an ad in True Detective. But the claim that they were the "Sex Maggots" is completely false, as confirmed by John Rzeznik. I think Mr. Rzeznik knows his band better than you.
- I think you should both agree to disagree, since it would appear the band has told conflicting stories about the origin of the name. However, the more widespread tale is that they were called the Sex Maggots, so just please stick with that.
- The All Music Guide confirms that they started out as the "Sex Maggots". —Akrabbim 15:40, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- I disagree. To me, a spoken interview has more weight than text. For any number of reasons, text is more likely to be inaccurate. As such, if that interview MP3 is accurate (I'm not able to listen to it, so I can't verify it) then I think it should be given more weight.

The name change thing should go in the article. If there are conflicting stories, the article shouldn't just show one; we need some sources, and show the information, not try to piece together the most likely truth ourselves. I remember hearing the Sex Maggots thing on MTV or VH1, so if it's true or false, it's still notable as an urban myth or disputed fact etc. --Scarlet-=Spider-DavE=- 08:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- I would argue that Wikipedia is about providing factual information. So including an urban myth or disputed fact would seem counterproductive to that end. It would be continuing the propagation of these misconceptions.

Hey, guys, they were definitely called the Sex Maggots. I've seen that info in every one of the band's biographies I've ever seen, and there's a chat interview with them here that states so. Scroll down a bit and you'll see them answer the question: [4] --Selo12394 19:41, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Alaska
Just came across this site which talks about an MTV video with the Goo Goo Dolls done with the Alaska Railroad. Worth adding to the article? Feel free too... cluth 08:11, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stay With You
I fixed the addition that said stay w/ u was number 7 on the billboard 100 b/c it was 7 on adult top 40 not billboard 100. [5]--70.246.16.184 08:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Fixed all the chart numbers, since they were mostly incorrect. I appreciate people's enthusiasm for the band, but don't be making up chart numbers.
[edit] Chart Numbers and Album Sales
I corrected the album sales status, based on http://www.thebulletin.com/archives/2006/september/betterdays.htm , and the chart numbers to reflect the numbers available from the All Music Guide and Billboard online. I also took the liberty of correcting the order of the singles to reflect their dates of release. I'm not certain about the Stay With You chart numbers; if someone could update them and reference where they obtained the information it would be greatly appreciated for verification purposes. I went by the Billboard and AMG numbers online, but I think they may have not updated them. 70.51.61.32 23:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] UK Singles Chart Numbers
Does anyone have more information about the UK singles chart numbers for the Goo Goo Dolls? There is very litte information present in the article, and it hasn't been updated in ages. If someone could post revised numbers and cite the information source, it would be appreciated.
- I updated the table of singles to reflect the UK Singles Chart. I used everyhit.com. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 03:51, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
== Picture of the band == AVRIL LAVIGNE ROCKS!!!
Surprised nobody provided a picture of the band. Does mine suffice or can it be bettered?

[edit] Speedy deletion
The rationale for not speedy deleting this article is that it is a very notable band, deleting the article as a whole would harm Wikipedia. The wording is largely the same as it was a year ago. Other sites with similar wordings could well have copied from Wikipedia, none that I found looked like the definitive source of the information. If there is doubt about whether this is a copyvio, re-write the article. Mallanox 23:13, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Singles Discography disputes
Someone (70.49.139.165) insists that "Just the Way You Are" and "Fallin' Down" should not be included in the discography because they were not "radio singles" despite their physical existence as promotional singles. I question this assertion--where were these singles sent if not to radio?--but more to the point, I assert that this is no basis for exclusion. A true DISCography is a list of releases. Whether such releases were intended for airplay does not matter. If these actual, physical singles are to be excluded, the section should be renamed "Airplay chart" or something. At the very least, these additional singles should be mentioned in a footnote to the chart. Or they should be listed in the discography with a footnote stating that they were not intended for airplay. Scratchtasia 21:47, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Not THE Goo Goo Dolls
Notice how their logo never capitalizes the "t" in "the", it's because the name is just "Goo Goo Dolls". "the" merely appears to make the name more natural in certain sentences. But even then, you still see it absent a lot. Like no one goes to a "the Goo Goo Dolls" concert, you go to a "Goo Goo Dolls" concert, right? Newbliss (talk) 22:32, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- There have been prior discussions about this. As such I moved it back, and think it should stay at Goo Goo Dolls short of a formal request for renaming. --T-rex 20:46, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Goo Goo Dolls Day?
Why would Buffalo proclaim two days to be Goo Goo Dolls day? And why pick independence day as one of them? This seems unlikely. Not cited anyway... --24.18.62.22 (talk) 06:09, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Because the Goo Goo Dolls gave a large free concert in Buffalo on independence day. --T-rex 20:46, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
