Good length ball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A good length ball is a type of cricket delivery that pitches at just the right length away from the batsman so it is extremely difficult to be played on the back-foot (not short enough) or on the front-foot (not full enough.) The batsman usually hangs out his bat and waits the ball to hit it rather than attempt a drive.

Good length varies according to the batsman's reach. To find your own good-length, plant back-foot in the crease in your normal stance. Stretch and play a forward off (or on) defense. Mark where your bat comes down at the end of the stroke. An area 4 inches to 10 inches further down the pitch is the good-length spot for you.
