"Good Enough" is the fourth single from Evanescence's second studio album, The Open Door, and was written by Amy Lee. The music video debuted on September 10, 2007.

[edit] Story behind the song

Lee has said that the intro for "Good Enough" was derived from a piece written for the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which she says was eventually cut from the score for being "too dark".[1] However, producers of the film later stated that Lee had never been approached about penning music for Narnia and that no Evanescence music had been planned for use.[2]

During an interview with VH1 News, Lee revealed her state of mind while writing the song.[3]

“ I had gone through a lot of difficult things during the writing of the whole album, and by the end of it, I had stepped away from those bad situations. That's really hard. You have to be really brave and strong about it. After doing that, I felt so amazing. For the first time I felt like I could write a song based on how good I felt. I have never done that before ever. ”

Lee says that her husband, Josh Hartzler, was the inspiration for this song, as he was for Evanescence's first single, "Bring Me to Life".[4] She refers to Mr. Hartzler in the insert booklet for The Open Door, which was published prior to the two becoming engaged:

“ Josh, you are my muse. Nothing inspires me the way you do. Thank you for all my missing pieces. Thank you for your strength and love. Thank you for letting me see myself through your eyes, because only then could I know that I am good enough for you. ”

The music video for "Good Enough" was filmed between June 11 and June 14, 2007 on Váci utca (Váci street) in Budapest, Hungary. The video was directed by Marc Webb and Rich Lee, and produced by production company DNA.[7][8]

On July 30, 2007 an unfinished version of the video was leaked onto the Internet. This copy included minor unedited special effects replaced with descriptions (for example: "mirror melts"). The official, finished version was released on September 10, 2007 during the television series Total Request Live on MTV, with Amy Lee attending to present the video, as previously announced on the Evanescence website.[9]

The video opens in a scene that shows Amy burying a photograph in a hole in the floorboards. The lyrics start, and she walks away, as the same hole closes up behind her. She picks up a book, heads towards her desk, and writes on it some verses of the song (Can't let go of this dream/I can't breathe but I feel/Good Enough/for you to love me too, though the last line is not clear). A curly design grows on the diary as she approaches a tall mirror, she looks in it and it starts to melt. She walks away towards the piano in a raised floor. Some candles, a bulb and a glass start to melt, while the wall painting and a record begin to burn. Then, as she sings And I've completely lost myself a bookshelf catches fire, causing the whole room to burn ablaze. As the second chorus fades, raindrops fall on the piano's keys, and then all over the room, extinguishing the fire as she sings And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall. Pour real life down on me. The room is shown burnt and wasted. Just as Amy sings for you to love me too, a small vine grows up from a floorboard, and they expand to the whole set. The sun lights the room, and in the very end of the song, blue flowers blossom from the vines in the piano.
