[edit] Summary

[edit] Photo of Durban's Golden Mile

Photo of the Durban Beach Front which shows a large section of the 'Golden Mile' - an expanse of beach front on the Indian Ocean, that runs from the harbour mouth north to the Umgeni river mouth and beyond. The view in the photo extends over the 'Snake Park Pier' all the way to the entrance of Durban Harbour, as evidenced by the large green land mass on its south side, called the Bluff. Various activities are taking place on the promenade because Durban has its winter festival in full swing. In the air is a stunt plane and on the ground are many more people than is usual all celebrating the beautiful 'winter' weather. Durban is semi-tropical so it never really gets cold and the water is warm enough to swim in all year, although surfers tend to use wet suits as they stay out for hours in the often perfect beach break conditions.
