Golden Gate Capital Partners is a venture-capital firm in San Francisco, California. It primarily seeks investments less than $100 million that have possible rapid gains in equity, with a significant possibility of liquidity. Recently, it has begun to do larger deals including buying a 2/3rds stake in clothing store Express for ~$550M in 2007. It currently has over $9bn in Asset Under Management (AUM). It was formed in 2000, and its pattern of investments shows significant investment in technology companies that may have been distressed by the recession of that time. Many principals were formerly associated with Bain Capital, another investment group.
