God's Army (revolutionary group)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

God's Army is an armed revolutionary group that opposes the military government of Burma and advocates a doctrine based on a mixture of Christianity and animism. The group was an offshoot of the Karen National Union. They were based along the Thailand-Burma border, and conducted a string of audacious guerrilla actions—for example, seizing the embassy of Burma in Bangkok—during the 1990s and early 2000s.

The group was led by brothers Johnny and Luther Htoo beginning in 1997, who were at that time estimated to be only ten years of age. In 2006 Johnny Htoo and several of his followers surrendered to Burmese troops.
