[edit] Sakae not a derivative?

I've heard from an aircraft engine expert (no written source available unfortunately) that Nakajima did buy a license of the 14K, but the Sakae wasn't based on it. Please note that on the Nakajima Sakae page, the phrase "it was version of the famous Gnome-Rhône 14K, a license for which had been taken out in 1936" was replaced by "It was a designed by Nakajima after acquiring a license for the French Gnome-Rhone 14K". FWIW the Sakae's basic characteristics (ie bore, stroke, diameter etc) are completely different from the 14K's (see on the Gnome-Rhône 14N page as I have not updated the 14K page yet, but the K and N had similar basic characteristics). [edit] Sakae not a derivative?

It's probably for the best that you removed it. I have half a dozen books that mention the 14K in relation to the Sakae and that Nakajime held a license for it. But they don't explain whether it was a copy or merely influenced.
