[edit] Hello

Hello Gmatsuda. I'm new to Wikipedia and the edits on Fukufuji were the first edits I've made. So when I ask my questions please note that I am still learning and I'm open to constructive critisism. With that being said, how exaclty is what I said a POV? Is it because I said the save he made was "spectacular"? My goal with edit was to simply add more info about Fukufuji's first carrer game. The fact that he is the first Asian to play in the NHL and the fact that it was a great save that not every goalie could make (especially ones making their debut) justifies the mention in their Wiki page. And Honestly, I like the way the article flowed a lot better than the way it is now. Thanks for your time. Basstastic 11:16 24 January 2007

I was once new to Wikipedia too, so trust me, I know what you're experiencing. :-) "POV" is a Wiki-related abbreviation for "point of view," and it's used here to indicate that an edit was not written using a neutral point of view. In this particular case, calling Fukufuji's save on Eric Brewer "spectacular" (which I believe is the descriptive term you used...I don't remember off the top of my head), adds POV to the article. BTW: I agree that it was somewhat spectacular, but again, someone else's opinion may differ, which is why you avoid POV in an encyclopedia at all costs.
As for the save itself, I see your point, but is it encyclopedic? I don't think so. I hear what you're saying in terms of him being a rookie goalie making such a huge save. However, on balance, it really isn't relevant, especially noting that since then, he's allowed more soft goals than he has made great saves (he's been tossed into the fire with the Kings, who know he's not ready for the NHL). This is why I removed mention of the save on Brewer altogether. Gmatsuda 00:18, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Fair Enough. I knew that POV was point of view but did not understand why it was taken off for that reason. But thanks for the education and pointers. I appreciate it. Basstastic 18:32 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Do I know you?

Does G = Gann? Howard Cheng NSU '93. howcheng {chat} 05:45, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Howard! Good to hear from you. I'll see you at the 25th anniversary events...how'd you find me on here, anyway? Gmatsuda 06:18, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
I was browsing through WP:GAC and saw your nomination for Manzanar ... the username and the topic seemed like too much of a coincidence (and actually, if I hadn't seen your post on the NSU 25th anniversary blog the other day I might not have remembered you .. hehe) and then saw your user page saying you were in LA ... so in other words, total random chance. I've been on the 'pedia for almost 2 years now (looks like about the same as you judging by your welcome message) and you are the first person I know in real life that I've met here (albeit 14 years separated), although I know a lot of people who read Wikipedia. Good luck on your GA nominee -- I just had one pass (Rancho Camulos). Hey, you know what, we recently passed an Ansel Adams Manzanar photo as Featured Picture, which definitely needs to be in the article -- Image:Manzanar calisthenics 0016u.jpg (see the nomination discussion). When it comes time for that to be the POTD I'm going to want to spotlight Manzanar and not Ansel Adams or calisthenics -- probably you can use it for discussing some of the propaganda the OWI did, but it needs to be in here (otherwise it may lose its Featured Picture status). howcheng {chat} 06:39, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
I didn't know that photo was an FP. Cool. Added it. :-) Gmatsuda 06:50, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
