Gluster is a clustering Linux distribution started by Z Research under the direction of Anand Babu aiming at commoditizing supercomputing and superstorage. Gluster aims at providing a platform for developing clustering applications tailored for a specific tasks such as HPC clustering, storage clustering, enterprise provisioning, and database clustering.
Gluster makes heavy use of muti-casting and RDMA where ever possible.
