Glasgow to Edinburgh Lines

There are three railway lines linking Glasgow with Edinburgh. These are:

• Glasgow to Edinburgh via Carstairs Line (the only electrified link)
• Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk Line
• Glasgow to Edinburgh via Shotts Line

A fourth route is also proposed to reopen

• Glasgow to Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate (this line will also be electrified)

Historically the first line between Glasgow and Edinburgh was the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway.
