Girard is located at (41.158607, -80.695558)[3].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.6 square miles (17.1 km²), of which, 6.1 square miles (15.8 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²) of it (7.27%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 10,902 people, 4,631 households, and 2,959 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,783.5 people per square mile (688.9/km²). There were 4,937 housing units at an average density of 807.7/sq mi (312.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.59% White, 2.44% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.72% of the population. 30.4% were of Italian, 16.2% German, 14.0% Irish, 6.8% American and 5.8% English ancestry according to Census 2000.
There were 4,631 households out of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.5% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.1% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 88.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,672, and the median income for a family was $41,587. Males had a median income of $33,130 versus $20,993 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,077. About 10.3% of families and 12.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.6% of those under age 18 and 9.6% of those age 65 or over.

- Jib Jab Hot Dog Shoppe, the most popular attraction of Girard. People from all over neighboring cities-and even states(all the way from PA)-come to Girard to eat at this booming small town restaurant.
- Royal Gardens has been a popular bar and grill for several years. It is family owned and used to house a grocery store. There is a bocce court in the basement. You will often find parents and sports fans eating there after high school sporting events.Owned by the Acerra family since 1933.Three generations.Started as a grocery store in 1913 by the Acerra bros.
- Tod Park, Liberty Park, Stambaugh Park and Prospect Park are the four parks in Girard.
- There are several neighborhoods in Girard including Parkwood and Squaw Creek.
