Barbaro was first Venetian consul to Azov, and subsequently commander of Albania. On September 27, 1472, Barbaro was appointed ambassador by the Venetian senate to Uzun Hassan at Tabriz, to which mission he departed on February 18, 1473[1].

His work "Journey to the Tanais, Persia, India, and Constantinople" (1543) is included in Giovanne Baptista Ramusio's "Collection of Travels" [2].
