Talk:Ginger Baker
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One of the better Jazz concerts I saw was Ginger with his Denver Jazz Quintet group in NYC when his DJQ2O album came out. When I was there, Max Roach was in the audience and Elvin Jones was supposedly there another night....
[edit] Re: Trivia
"There are many venues around the world with ruined floors to prove it."
I highly doubt that the venues still have ruined floors from the nailed down bass drums.
- I don't know about other countries, but in Britain, if the venue's protected there's not much you can do about it, provided the damage is not too extensive (which I doubt it would be - just a few holes and a fairly scuffed bit).
- See the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. - MightyMoose22 10:34, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fela Kuti & Africa 70
i agree with the above commentator. there's basically NO WAY that (m)any venues have ruined floors because of ginger baker.
anyway, i'm pretty sure that Ginger Baker helped set up the first modern recording studio in nigeria, with fela kuti. it's in the liner notes to my Africa 70 cds. Ginger was friends with Fela, sat in with his band often apparently, and made at least one recording with him. "Africa 70 & Ginger Baker, LIVE", or something like that. you can see it on amazon. i just forget what it's called at the moment, and i don't have it handy.
ALL OF THIS IS WORTH PUTTING INTO THE WIKI, i think. helping set up the first (supposedly?) modern recording studio in a country is pretty cool. WOULDN'T YOU SAY?
- If you can cite the source (in an organized fashion) I'm sure it would have a lot of relevance to the article. I just think that it can't be inserted into his bio, so trivia would be the best place, unless you see otherwise. Эйрон Кинни (t) 07:12, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] the jazz
can somebody list any ginger baker jazz-drummer recordings? or information about those gigs?
[edit] new trivia?
I was wondering whether it would be appropriate to put the following into the Ginger Baker page. Something of the following: When the rock band Queen was auditioning for its drummer, it advertised that it was looking for a "Ginger Baker-type drummer".
Anybody disagree?
- Trivia would be the appropriate section to insert it in, if any. Эйрон Кинни (t) 07:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think it is worth noting in this article. --MacMoney 13:23, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ginger Baker's Airforce
Accoding to the London Times Ginger Baker's Airforce is going to reform. Should this be listed in the article?
Do you have a link for that or any more info? I'm in England and haven't heard anything, and the last I heard Ginger had retired following the Cream reunion gigs....? 172.159.189.187 22:56, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] erratas and style
I have corrected the spelling in the reference to drummer Phil Seamen and eliminated the link toPhil Seaman. Furthermore, I have eliminated the word graciously from the reference to Baker's drum kit technician providing information. Such wording is not in keeping with an encyclopedia, even if said reference is acceptable.
[edit] Fighting with Jack Bruce
I think that there should be some mention of the arguments and fights that Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce had.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Cream1993.jpg
The image Image:Cream1993.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
