Wow- I didnt know that the father of Gil Scott Heron used to play football for Glasgows Celtic FC! As a Celtic supporter who used to play Gil Scott Heron covers with a band in Glasgow, this piece of trivia came as a pleasant surprise!!

[edit] Paved the way?

Not sure that you can say Gil Heron paved the way for modern players like Henrik Larsson to play for Celtic. There were black players playing on Scotland some 60 years before Gil Heron and by the time Larsson signed for Celtic, black players were commonplace in the Scottish game. I don't see the link, personally.
