Gil Shwed (Hebrew: גיל שוויד, fl. c. 2000) is an Israeli programmer and entrepreneur. He is the founder, CEO and chairman of board of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.
In 1993, Shwed invented and patented stateful inspection. Most of the currently used technologies are similar to it. After serving in the army he with two Check Point co-founders used his experience in the Israel Defense Forces to write the first version of FireWall-1 which was released in 1994.
In June of 2004 Shwed received an honorary Doctor of science from the Technion.[citation needed]
