Why does it lack logic? It is a feature film with a new plot. Check out any film and you will see that sequels have different pages from the first film. Why this personal crusade to merge all under the sky? (pun intended) --Energman 17:48, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvio on plot section

A lot of the plot section is taken directly from http://www.productionig.com/contents/works_sp/47_/index.html. It needs to be written. kollision 15:54, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I rewrote the entire plot section, so that should solve the copyright violation issue. I removed the revision notice at the top of the page since it seems unnecessary now. TankRamp 05:03, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

The rewritten plot section contains numerous errors, some quite large. As an example, the plot section says "The Tachikoma kept a record of the Major's conversation with Koshiki, but insisted it had no value after Koshiki died. Batou's own memory of the conversation may have been altered." whereas the actual scene (per the official english sub and dub) says that the Tachikomas SHOULD have a record of the conversation, but claim that it was erased in the white out when he died. It is, in fact, Batou that says that while he was also listening to the conversation (his exact words are "Yeah, sort of"), it doesn't matter anymore. So, as you can see, the plot section is just confused about what's actually going on in places. Other problems would include using different spelling (Siak instead of Seok, for example) than the official translation, or even completely different terms or incorrect translations ("Kifu Aged", a half-translation, instead of "Noble Rot Senior Citizen", the official translation which even has a line of dialog explaining why they use the term). Somebody who has the time should go over the plot section to try to weed out these kinds of errors. Guspaz 09:13, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

With regards to the plot section, it's written that "Kugutsu Mawashi can be roughly translated to "Puppeteer". Within the rest of the plot section, the phrase Kugutsu Mawashi is then used. Would it not be easier for an English-speaking audience to just refer to this mysterious entity as the Puppeteer, instead of using Japanese that the casual reader might mistake for a specific person's name? I'm therefore changing all references of "Kugutsu Mawashi" to "the Puppeteer." After all, most people will see this movie subbed and the sub for the entity will be in the English. Thus, if someone sees the movie and comes here for plot clarification, they may become confused reading the Japanese. I know it's an imperfect translation but it can't be helped. Or am I just nuts here??

I'm editing it back. It's not appropriate to refer to Kugutsu Mawashi as 'the Puppeteer', because the Puppeteer is another character within the Ghost in the Shell canon, and it's never stated (or even directly implied) that the Puppeteer and Kugutsu Mawashi are the same character. Added: Also, I know the other character's name is technically 'the Puppet Master', and not 'the Puppeteer', but they're close enough to be confusing. Since the Tachikoma were 'destroyed' in the ending of 2nd Gig, I believe that listing the Tachikoma on the Voice Cast is kind of giving up the plot of the movie (they 'reappear' halfway of the movie), and therefore should be removed from the voice cast list, or listed as ??? or something. Hay, thanks for shining that big old spotlight on the very detailed spoiler there, jerk. The spoiler section lists a very rudimentary plot outline, I see no relevant details. I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. I figured they would be back, but the hows, whens, and whys, I would have preferred to see the film. Thanks again. It's hardly a spoiler. At the end of 2nd Gig, they shove their memories on the net. The "how" of them coming back is the major saying pretty much "I found them on the net", and that's it. That's not a spoiler, that's barely even a plot point. So, the how is only a spoiler if you consider the fact that they're back at all a spoiler. Convoluted logic, perhaps, but the point is that they gloss over everything except the fact that they're back so much so that them being back is the only thing that matters. That's really interesting, and I was wondering about that, too. If you can get a more respectable source than a forum (from personal experience I know that the best analysis often comes from forums, but it's Wikipedia policy not to list forums as a source), it would be okay to include it as a plot interpretation in the main article, I think. The summary would probably have to be shorter though, linking to the full theory at the source. TankRamp 15:01, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Also I made some snapshots from the film which kind of support the theory. Basically if you look of the rack of remotes when Motoko (as Chroma) returns to her safehouse there are 3 spaces: Chroma, Young Motoko, and the Civil Servant (from right to left). This is shown (proved?) when K.M. hacks her memory. In his final scene, he (the Civil Servant) steps out of the rack, after it pans across showing all Motoko's remotes and who goes where. Okay I've summarised for this page and moved my big chunk to K.M.s page. I looked at similar sections on interpretation on wiki pages for David Lynch's films and a few others.

Yeah, I think the picture should definitely be included. It clarifies the theory. I also saw the interpretation sections in the wiki pages for Lynch's films (is there an overlap between GITS fans and Lynch fans?) and thought they added a lot to the entries. I personally don't have any problem with interpretation sections, especially when they're as well-substantiated as this one is. I was only worried about editors coming in who are bigger sticklers for policy. When it comes down to it, though, this seems to be a fairly straight-forward, fact-based explanation of the plot, rather than an artistic interpretation. If the Lynch interpretations can stay up, this one certainly can. I guess it's good that it's put out there with a little bit of a disclaimer, since there's still a chance the theory isn't totally spot on, but probably nobody will have a problem with it. Good add. Can't wait for the Official release with official translation! (Also a better image too) Hopefully it will be less cryptic than the fansub. For instance, apparently there is a line missing where Motoko tells Batou she found the Tachikomas' Memory Files in cyberspace, after she saves Togusa. Then we will know. [edit] Possible Trivia?

The scene where Batou and the Major point guns at eachother seems to mirror the scene in Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocense, where they do the same.

Another thing is, the black cat that seems to hack the cyborg in the robotic suit's eyes, could possible be a homage to the black cat in The Matrix trilodgy. (In the GitS:SAC:2nd Gig trivia it actually states that they pay homage to the helicopter matrix scene, most likely because The Matrix was inspired in part by the first Ghost in the Shell movie.) It's not too far of a stretch but I don't want to add it if someone's just going to remove it.

The article has been edited to state that the Sci Fi channel aired this widescreen....but I could have sworn it wasn't. The image that they uploaded could have been easily edited/cropped to make it look widescreen, but I don't know why someone would intentionally lie like this.

I watched it when it came on and it was fullscreen. I remember being very disapointed that it was shown fullscreen and not widescreen, becuase i personally prefer widescreen. 151.203.145.104 06:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

It was definitely NOT aired in widescreen. This needs to be corrected.

[edit] Names change of Ka Gae Ru and Ka Ruma

Hi, just wondered why the names have changed? Kagael and Karam don't sound very Japanese? Have they changed in the English translation, because in previous GitS all the names are Japanese? I haven't seen the English dub. Was thinking of changing them back to the original Japanese names. Tx Jez crow 12:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

The official translation names them as "Ka Gael" and "Ka Rum" (their names are even part of the titles of chapters 1 and 3 on the DVD, "Death of Colonel Ka Gael" and "Pandora's Box ~Infiltration of Ka Rum's Mansion"). So neither verseion is correct. But then again, the article gets most of the names wrong. The official name is "Raj Puhto" (Chapter 13, "The 14th Man ~Tailing Raj Puhto"), but the article has "Raj Poot". There are a ton of such errors in the article. Somebody should go through the official translation and correct these mistakes. Guspaz 09:27, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I think the incorrect names are those from the fansub. However, I did wonder about that 'l' in Gael. I didn't think Japanese used this letter. the article say Hideo Kuze no longer loved her... i didn't recall this, they have a special childhood bond but not much were said about them. The supported reason of her leaving should instead be due to the inability of PS9 to save him; a more likely reason to "take it out on the system" and quit. Akinkhoo 12:57, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree with the above comment, to say that the Major left Section 9 because "Kuze no longer loved her" is completely unsupported by anything that occurred during the 2nd Gig. In fact, Kuze's last words to the Major were something to the effect of I'll be waiting out in the net for you, hardly a rejection of feelings. Throughout the 2nd Gig it is clearly, if subtly, established that the Major and Kuze share a deep bond, she indirectly referred to him as her first love, and their time spent buried underground showed they still had an emotional connection. I really think that comment about Kuze not loving her needs to be removed. If Kuze was indeed involved with her disillusionment, it might be because of losing him just as she found him again, but not because of rejection by him. DejitaruMusouka

[edit] The Theory About Mawashi

I have serious problems with the proposed "theory" that "Once Kusanagi became disillusioned after realizing Hideo Kuze no longer loved her, she left the physical world of Section 9 to "sojourn in the net"". This should not be included in the article because it's demonstrably false.

Firstly, as a reference to the theory, the Ghost in the Shell I film is given. However, we know that the Stand Alone Complex does not continue the film timeline, so it is impossible for this to have taken place.

Secondly, it is quite clear from events in the Solid State Society film itself that the Major was not sojourning on the net, and was simply conducting her own private investigations.

Thirdly, the Major did not leave Section 9 because she was disillusioned about Kuze not loving her: as mentioned in the film, she was disillusioned with Section 9 itself, and having to work within its restrictions. It is far more plausible that it was the assassination of Kuze that sparked this disillusionment, because she was ultimately unable to save him.

Fourthly, unless I'm missing something, the scenes with Kuze in 2nd Gig at no point imply that love (or lack of love) between the Major and Kuze was an issue. The real issue at stake was having someone to confide in, to depend on (perhaps platonic love, but that's about it). The Major states (in the scene where they are trapped together in the container) that she thinks she has someone to confide in, which I took to mean Batou, while Kuze states that she's lucky, and that he's still searching for that someone. The imagery of Batou carrying the "cross" in this scene was a symbol of him carrying the Major's problems and issues, carrying her suffering.

A far more plausible theory is that the Major's subconscious longings, without the support or help of Batou (and Section 9, to some extent) - her constant search for meaning, her internal struggles - caused her subconscious to act on its own, and ultimately develop into an entity in its own right that could act independently without her knowledge.

Regardless of my own speculation, the point is that there is plenty of evidence to suggest that this theory is just simply incorrect, and it should be removed. krou 15:32, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Is this cut from the DVD release? It says at the beginning of the article Sci Fi aired the Adult version. After watching my own DVD I can't find anything that would have to be blurred out. I saw the sci-fi channel version, it was uncut but they censored one scene of the film. During Aramaki's hospital visit the android nurses wear thongs, their behinds are blurred white on the screen.
