[edit] Revisions to Plot
Having recently watched the "Ghost Light" DVD and its extra features, I have edited the "Plot" section to correct some common misconceptions and sources of confusion about the story. Light's spaceship was not sitting under Gabriel Chase ever since the time of the Neanderthals; it left Earth after collecting Nimrod and only returned a few years before the events of the story. Control is the "control subject" of Light's experiment (something I never understood until several years after first seeing the story), while Josiah is the "survey agent", who leaves the ship and evolves into whatever the dominant lifeform is on the planet Light is investigating. At the end of the story Josiah becomes the new Control creature, while Control is the new survey agent (and Redvers and Nimrod will presumably take Light's place as the leaders of the expedition).
