Getulia

Getulia was the Roman name for a region in Northern Africa covering what is now most of the coastal territories of Tunisia and Algeria, between the Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. It overlaps some of what was later known as the Barbary Coast, and limited Numidia to the East and Mauretania to the West. Others sources locate this region south of the Atlas, bordering the Sahara. Getulia has been inhabited by Berbers since immemorial times. The name Vandalia (after the Vandals, Germanic tribes who migrated to the region in the 6th century) also applies sometimes.

From Getulia comes the first name Getulius in Latin, from which comes Getúlio in Portuguese, which in its turn became famous as the name of Getúlio Vargas.
