Image:Gerolamo Figino.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Self-portrait of Gerolamo Figino, Italian renaissance painter. Student of Francesco Melzi. Also given as "Girolamo Figino". Known to have worked in Milan from 1524 to 1565 ([1]), possibly the father of Giovanni Ambrogio Figino. Might also have been the author of the anonymous Codex Huygens ([2]).

Image from [3]. Note that the external source states that this was a self-portrait of Giovanni Ambrogio Figino, but that just doesn't make sense. The inscription clearly reads "Ar Gerolamo Figino M D LXII". In 1562, Ambrogio would have been at most 14 years old. The man shown is clearly older, and a 14-year-old probably could not have drawn this portrait. "Ar" probably means "autoritratto", Italian for "self-portrait".

Charcoal and red pencil. The original is in the Pinacoteca Brera in Milan.
