From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Historic image showing a Jew being tormented by German Police in Rzeszow, Poland Used to illustrate Holocaust article From Yad Vashem site: http://www1.yadvashem.org/Odot/prog/image_into.asp?id=855&lang=EN&type_id=2&addr=/IMAGE_TYPE/855.JPG

[edit] FU rationale

  • This image is historic - it cannot be reproduced
  • The image is used to illustrate tormenting of a Jew by Nazi policemen, with one apparently kicking and others standing by and watching – there is no known equivalent free image
  • There is no easy way to convey to the readers the sense of tormenting of citizens by authorities that this image depicts without this image or equivalent
  • The actual photographer and copyright holders are unknown, and not likely to be known, due to the war circumstances
  • The image is used to illustrate an important part of history in the Holocaust, with no free equivalent – this is exactly the type of FU case that 'historic images' addresses and approves
