[edit] Bio outside of baseball?
Can someone add a section about how his profession and life prior to the Yankess? I know I would like to know how he made enough money to buy the Yanks. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.35.195.6 (talk) 19:41, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- He spent half his life outside of baseball, but there's no reflection of that in this inadequate article. He also has number interests outside of baseball even now. Again, you'd never know from this article... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.132.168.17 (talk) 23:57, 4 December 2007

The Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame... George Steinbrenner for the economic divide in Major League Baseball should be added. TMC1982 2:18, May 8, 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Money
How did he get rich to buy the Yanks?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.246.103.133 (talk) 17:46, 25 June 2006
- Steinbrenner spent one season with the Boilermakers before joining his father's struggling company, the American Shipbuilding Company, the following year. --andrew 03:34, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

- Indeed the article says this, but I don't know if that's enough to explain where he got 10 million dollars. I don't think at that time, a season of coaching would pay anywhere near that kind of money, so the question then goes to "joining his father's struggling company". If it's stuggling, how did he manage to find enough money just joining it to buy sports teams? Just wondering. I think the article could use a bit more detail on where his money came from TheHYPO 12:12, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
george Steinbrenner didn't have 10 million dollars he assembled a group of investors. Ramgar11 23:19, 7 August 2007 (UTC) august 07, 2007 4:18

[edit] Quotes Page
Someone should clarify on the quotes page which quotes are actually by the real-life Steinbrenner and which are by the Steinbrenner played on Seinfeld. This section is rather confusing and may be misleading. —Ua747sp (talk) 05:48, 9 Aug 2006 (UTC)
I agree, I don't think he ever said "....Free agency could ruin baseball".--Fayettehelle,NC 05:46, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
George Steinbrenner Did say ".....Free agency could Ruin Baseball."--. People don't always mean what they say, but he did say it. Ramgar11 23:53, 5 August 2007 (UTC) 8-05-07 4:52
[edit] Failure
Someone recently added "Failure" section that follows Seinbrenner's "Success" section. I believe that this section should be removed, or at least edited. For starters, it is not definitively the "most devastating collapse in baseball history." Seeing as there is no quantifiable way to measure a "devastating collapse" of this nature, I will change that part for now. If someone wants to come along later and fix up the entire section (or remove it if it seems unnecessary). --Nichenbach 20:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Innovation
I added the innovation because i think it should show how he change the business of baseball, by going agaisnt other owners and by other methods.Ramgar11 23:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)08-05-07 4:20
[edit] Born in Rocky River?
There is no hospital in Rocky River. The nearet is in Lakewood or Cleveland (Westpark: Fairvew Hospital). I'm not aware of any hospital that used to be in Rocky River, but he could have been born there. Or he could have been born at home.
I went to High School with his nephew. Maybe I'll track him down, since I haven't talke to him in over 20 years, using this as an excuse. His mother, George's sister, would certainly know.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.170.191.248 (talk) 19:07, 15 August 2007
[edit] Introduction
The whole part about Steinbrenner being respected by other executives, and hated by non-Yankee fans either needs to be HEAVILY referenced, or removed from the article. It doesn't really have a place in an article like this, even with reference. President David Palmer 18:36, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fixed claim he is Jewish
George isn't Jewish, so I deleted this claim. He's of German descent, and is as far as I know a Christian. Jewish culture does not generally use "junior" or "thirds," as it's against custom to name someone after a living relative. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradlevinson (talk • contribs) 01:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- George STEINbrenner is absolutely Jewish. Do some research, you'll see —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.229.181.218 (talk) 08:22, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
So I suppose one of the more famous Nazi commanders was also Jewish just because he had STEIN in his name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_von_Manstein
Stein is the German word for stone. George’s last name literally means Stone burner. Most German’s with this last name use the English version Stoneburner. Jewish people have the word Stein in their name because they are named after Gemstones: Redstone, Greenstone, Finklestone (Carbuncle) etc. I am pretty sure that there are more people with STEIN in their names that are not Jewish. There are just not that many Germans in this country that aren’t Jewish.
Also, it is well known in the Tampa area (he lives there) that Steinbrenner is Catholic. He donated 250,000 to Tampa Catholic School.

[edit] Steinbrenner could have played himself on Seinfeld?
I recall in an interview, Larry David said they originally approached Steinbrenner about playing himself in the show but Steinbrenner refused because he thought it would take up too much of his time. So when they threw names around for replacements, they just decided that David should do it. Does anyone have a reference to this, and if so, could it get included in the article?--Will2k (talk) 20:23, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
