[edit] Jacob's Staff a different instrument?

I have been investigating the claims that Purbach has invented the Jacob's staff. I have noted that several sources refer to the development as deriving from Ptolemy's triquetrum. This leads me to believe that the instrument is not a cross-staff but a completely different instrument. I'm going to continue to look into this.

So many things have been given the name "Jacob's Staff" that it can not be used as a conclusive pointer to any one thing. Michael Daly 21:27, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
