George Pernicano

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Pernicano (born 1917) is best known for his restaurant Casa di Baffi, and for his connection to the San Diego Chargers.

Pernicano owns 3% of the San Diego Chargers, which he bought from Chargers founder Barron Hilton in 1961, during the height of his upscale restaurant's popularity. On Sept 8, 1996, he was inducted into the Chargers' Hall of Fame. Until recently, Pernicano had never missed a Chargers home game.

Casa di Baffi, which was open from 1946 to 1985 in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego, was one of the finest restaurants in the city in its day. However, to current residents, it is considered a blighted eyesore since Pernicano refuses to sell or redevelop the lot due to sentimental reasons.
