George Lopez (character)

George Edward Lopez, played by the comedian of the same name, is the central character of the show George Lopez.

George Edward Lopez [1] had a very bad childhood which is referenced throughout the series. His mother, Benny, is blamed for much of the abuse and jokes are often made about how she treated him badly. George initially believed Manny was dead (which was what Benny told him so he would stop annoying her by asking her where his father was), but discovered he was actually alive from Manny's sister, Cecelia. When Manny helps George when he runs into financial troubles, George (with Angie, Max and Benny in tow) goes to visit him in Phoenix. Manny later dies from kidney trouble. Later on in the series, George finds out he has a little sister, Linda Lorenzo, who Benny gave away. He also has a half-brother, who has the same name as him, George Edward Lopez. George marries Angie Palmero and has two children: Carmen and Max Lopez. In the first episode, Prototype, George gets promoted to being the manager of Powers Brothers Aviation, a factory that makes airplane parts. Angie's wealthy father, Vic, disapproved of George. In Super Bowl, . George is also a Oakland Raiders fan. It also mentions in several episodes that George has dyslexia, as well his son Max.

  • Manny Lopez is George's father who left him and Benny when he was a baby. After leaving George and Benny, he moves to Phoenix and starts a second family, as well a successful business. He later dies of kidney trouble.
  • Benita "Benny" Lopez is George's mother. George's mother. Along with George, she has another daughter, Linda, whom she gave away. It is later revealed that she tried to give George away first but kept him after the family returned him.
  • George Edward Lopez is George's half brother (on his father's side). George hangs up the phone when he gives Manny the Lopez's number.
  • Linda Lorenzo is George's sister. Benny gave her away at an early age
  • Joe is George's deceased uncle. Joesph dies of a neck disease.
  • Angie Lopez (née Palmero) is George's wife. They married around their twenties.
  • Max Lopez George's youngest child. He suffers from dyslexia like his father so he struggles in school. He tends to be the cause of trouble but his father always helps him to get over and past it.
  • Carmen Lopez The older of George's Children. Overly dramatic and not apparently smart, she drove George crazy with her teenage-based problems with boys, school and money.
  • Victor "Vic" Palmero is George's father-in-law. He didn't always like George; he attempted to pay his daugher not to marry George. Later in the series, he and George appear to become closer.
  • Ernesto 'Ernie' Cardenas is George's best friend and co-worker who he's known since the second grade.
  • Jack and Mel Powers are the owners of the factory, George often hangs out with Jack and Mel Powers. They are often at Thirsty's.
  • Luisa Diza is George's grandmother, who makes his relationship with Benny not look as bad compared to the one she has with her. She, however, gets along with George.
