George Carmont, born June 30, 1978 in Auckland, New Zealand, is a first grade rugby league player for the Wigan Warriors in the European Super League competition. His position of choice is centre. George is a strong defensive player who has continued to prove himself alongside team-mates such as Andrew Johns and Anthony Quinn. He is extremely accommodating to his fans and can be seen signing autographs and posing for photos after every game[citation needed]. He has represented New Zealand, USA and Samoa at international level.
The Samoan captain was expected to join either Harlequins or Wigan for the 2008 season with the latter seen as the more likely destination after the London side seemingly agreed a deal to sign David Vaealiki before the centre was confirmed as a new signing for Manly. [1][2]
Carmont when asked about Newcastle "I’d like to stay here as long as I can, maybe I’ll try England if that doesn’t work out, but I’ll get what I can out of football while the body holds up," he said. "It beats working in a chicken factory." [3]
In reaction to Newcastle not renewing his contract some of his fans created an online petition to try and get Newcastle to re-sign Carmont however on 27 November 2007 is was announced that he had signed a two year deal with European Super League club Wigan Warriors. [4]
