Geoffrey VI, Count of Anjou
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Geoffrey VI (June 3, 1134, Rouen - July 27, 1158, Nantes), Count of Anjou, of Maine and Nantes from 1156 to 1158, was the son of Geoffrey V, Count of Anjou and Empress Matilda.
In his will, Geoffrey V had stipulated that his second son Geoffrey would become Count of Anjou and of Maine if his elder son Henry managed to become King of England. In the meantime, he granted Geoffrey the castles at Chinon, Loudun and Mirebeau.
In 1154, Henry acceded to the English throne. Henry had a claim to some parts of Anjou and Maine through his marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine. Between 1156 and his death in Nantes on July 27, 1158, Henry and Geoffrey ruled Anjou jointly.
