Talk:Generation Einstein
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is something "off" in the writing of this article- I can't quite put my finger on why, it simply doesn't flow properly and is difficult to understand. As I'm not an expert on this subject, I'm not able to edit it, but perhaps someone else can. Eridax700 (talk) 19:47, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Positive qualities?
Doesn't quite sound so (to me at least). "Brands everywhere"? That's NOT positive in my book! Over-commercialisation and over-consumerism doesn't sound that great. "Traditional ideals"? Sounds a step or two backwards compared to previous generations - compliance with the bad things and lack of protest and wish for improvement? Drawing from the past and obsolete, that the previos generations tried to fight. Personality and identity genuine? Not at all. Governed by others, forcing "fitting into the society", from the TV, and even the TV-commercials! The stated goal is "be yourself", but in reality it comes to "don't be too different". More like "artificial" than "genuine". (gets off the soapbox) Ok, now for the constructive part... someone really should find some criticism to cite here, this article sounds too NPOV, i.e. it is written completely PRO stated theory. I'm flagging this NPOV now. :arny (talk) 04:02, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Opinion
I beleive that this article is describing a sort of theory and that though the theory is perhaps true, it is perhaps not true. There certainly could be a basis for what the article is saying, however it could be completely wrong and it would still be describing a generation that is largely theoretical in existance, it isn't meant to 100% describe the reality of the generation, it is defining the phrase "Generation Einstein". It is a generation that came into existance when it was first said to exist, not when someone from it was born. The page is describing the aspects of a certain phrase, nothing more. I do hope to have clarified the matter. (i do not have a username and i do not know how to identify myself as arny did. so i will make up a name for talk purposes, jstone)
[edit] Crisis?
The article claims that Generation X was shaped by the economic crisis of the 1980's. What economic crisis was that again? Not saying everything was perfect, but its not like the 1980's was the great depression. The decline in the industrial sector particulary in the Rust Belt and falling farm prices were problems, but the unemployment rate was about the same in 1990 as it was in 1979. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cglied (talk • contribs) 04:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- I would have thought that Generation X would be shaped by the AIDS epidemic, grunge culture, 1970's childhood, etc. 66.8.169.176 (talk) 11:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] confused
according to the chart this generation started in 1998, which means that the oldest of them are ten years old and certainly not doing the things the article claims they're doing 132.235.43.117 (talk) 00:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
It says 1988, not 1998 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.118.166.85 (talk) 21:42, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
