Ruins of the Genoese Palace (1314) in Galata, Istanbul, which was built as the Palazzo del Comune by Montano de Marinis, the Podestà of Galata.
The palace was originally an identical copy of the San Giorgio Palace in Genoa, Italy, which is seen at the bottom right side of the picture.
The facade ornaments of the palace were mostly removed in the 19th century and used for adorning the bank buildings in the nearby Bankalar Caddesi (Banks Street) in Galata, the financial center of the Ottoman Empire.
The arcades of the ground floor and the windows were later filled with concrete and stone.
